Oh my GODS. I was not prepared. So I read and enjoyed a good girls guide to murder several years ago and just somehow never read the rest of the series. But with the recent casting announcement I decided to pick it back up! I don’t read thrillers much anymore because I find them a bit anxiety inducing but occasionally I feel that it is worth it. This is one of those cases. Pip’s story in this book was so powerful. The mystery itself was so complex and nuanced with fantastic twists and I found that the book dealt with dark subjects (i.e. rape, the justice system, the gray area between good and bad) in a carefully crafted way. I love a good mystery once in a while but my favourite thing about this book was Pip’s development. There were some amazing character beats which I won’t spoil and I really can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I just need my library loan to come though!

The end has salvaged the entire book. Like it was boring until a little over 50% but then everything came together and the rage. The rage was so good I’m still angry alongside Pip.

Somehow I’m crying? This story is so well crafted and the characters’ emotions so vivid that it really puts you in all the action. It’s such a tangible story that carried on so well from the first book and leads up powerfully to the third. There were moments where I was afraid that Pip would suffer from Main Character Syndrome, where she’d see herself as the be all end all solver of issues, and without facing consequence. But Holly Jackson wrote her humanity so well in her interactions with other characters that I didn’t find that to be too big of an issue. Really brilliant thrilling read.
