I wish this was a satire, because then it would make sense to me why it was laughably bad. The creep factor and the WTF factor really makes me wonder how this is the same author as Pillars of the Earth, and other well plotted, written and crafted books. Bleech.

I DNF'd in the first 6 pages. Not my cup of tea.
A plot that starts with the traumatization of people, particularly women is not my jam.

UAU! Quando eu pensava ter deslindado o caso... Surpresa!!! Suspense, intriga, medo: tudo presente neste livro. Inclusivé, deixei de respirar em alguns momentos. Adorei a personagem Jean Ferrami, forte, determinada, independente, batalhadora. Lê-se num ápice de tão cativante.

The main reason why I stopped is because some of the writing seemed sexist to me. It might be because it’s an older work but I found many things that were too annoying for my liking. The main character was overly sexualised by all the male POVs we got so far, regardless if they were supposed to be good or not. Even some of her inner dialogue seemed problematic.
The plot was also different than what I expected from the synopsis and the way it is presented I think there is actually little mystery as we have too many information I think, much more than the main character. I can’t really imagine what could happen in the many pages left and I’m not intrigued enough to continue seeing the above mentioned problems.

It's been a while since I read a book that wasn't by Agatha Christie that was this good (and it's even in a similar genre). Although not really a "whodunnit" because you know up-front, there were still enough twists and turns as the good guys figured it all out to keep one intrigued. Half way through I was like "surely there's not much more that can happen?" - and I was wrong (but it never crossed over into the over-the-top). Thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to picking it up whenever I had the opportunity.

I read this book in highschool in Biology class, and then also when I picked it up in a hostel in Europe. I don't usually enjoy anything related to science, but this novel keeps you at the edge of your seat and is informative as well!
