Loved this, fresh and charming and delightful. My only issues were with the father, an infuriating character, and the ending (I could have used some more resolution).

This book started BRILLIANTLY - Cassandra's writing was witty, imsightful, amusing. But too many of the characters were just too awful, and by the 3/4 mark, that included Cassandra. Her father was vile, not eccentric, and Simon was sleazy, lechereous and his treatment of Cassandra felt icky with overtones of pedophilia.  In the end I had to bail.

This might be even a rare five-star book for me - we'll see how it settles in my memory in a few weeks to decide for sure. As I read I kept wondering WHY I loved it, why I couldn't put it down, why I thought about it so much even when I wasn't reading it. I'm still not entirely sure, but I do know I can't resist a book about about love, a seemingly ordinary family, and things not being as they seem. Plus it's historical fiction set in England and I'll just never tire of that.
