I will try keep this spoiler free but I absolutely loved this book. It generally felt like watching an entire clone wars movie unfold on screen. It also was the perfect closure for Ventress and who she is as a character especially since we never got to properly say goodbye to her in the series.
The reason why I cannot rate this fabulous book a full five stars is due to the fact that it unfortunately could have done with quite a few more pages I can understand that the intention was to keep every section of the book feeling like a clone wars episodes but alot of the time skips came with out warning and it felt annoying to have read that Vos and Ventress had grown close but not witnessed that full bonding. At least 200 more pages would have left me satisfied.
Other than that though this book is absolutely phenomenal and I would definitely recommend it to any Clone Wars fan. I truly wish we would have got an animated movie of this or a spin off tv show. The novel has left me craving for more.
My favourite part of the book has to be Asaji Ventress herself. She absolutely steals the show and her story concludes respectfully and in a way that makes sense. Golden writes her beautifully and adds a lot of nuance to her character whilst also showing the consequences of her dark path. Also because we get to see the consequences of her dark actions it is as a result equally satisfying to read her journey towards the light.
Quilan if there is an interesting Jedi that has been so under utilised its him. Golden develops and gives him so much more depth than just a rebellious jedi like Anakin. The way his POV parts are written allows us to sympathise with the character through the ups and downs of his journey. His enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers is a really interesting dynamic with Ventress and that heartwarming relationship is the main heart of this book.
Lastly I think this book greatly shows the failures of the Jedi Order and Council greatly to the point I feel like Obi Wan is the only that had not lost his way. The way Golden writes the council meetings makes you feel tense and uneasy showing how clouded by the dark side they were and how desperate they had become to end the war.
Overall an absolutely thrilling Clone Wars novel that gives fans the endings they were looking for after its terrible orginal cancellation. Highly recommend.
