I will try keep this spoiler free but I absolutely loved this book. It generally felt like watching an entire clone wars movie unfold on screen. It also was the perfect closure for Ventress and who she is as a character especially since we never got to properly say goodbye to her in the series.
The reason why I cannot rate this fabulous book a full five stars is due to the fact that it unfortunately could have done with quite a few more pages I can understand that the intention was to keep every section of the book feeling like a clone wars episodes but alot of the time skips came with out warning and it felt annoying to have read that Vos and Ventress had grown close but not witnessed that full bonding. At least 200 more pages would have left me satisfied.
Other than that though this book is absolutely phenomenal and I would definitely recommend it to any Clone Wars fan. I truly wish we would have got an animated movie of this or a spin off tv show. The novel has left me craving for more.
My favourite part of the book has to be Asaji Ventress herself. She absolutely steals the show and her story concludes respectfully and in a way that makes sense. Golden writes her beautifully and adds a lot of nuance to her character whilst also showing the consequences of her dark path. Also because we get to see the consequences of her dark actions it is as a result equally satisfying to read her journey towards the light.
Quilan if there is an interesting Jedi that has been so under utilised its him. Golden develops and gives him so much more depth than just a rebellious jedi like Anakin. The way his POV parts are written allows us to sympathise with the character through the ups and downs of his journey. His enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers is a really interesting dynamic with Ventress and that heartwarming relationship is the main heart of this book.
Lastly I think this book greatly shows the failures of the Jedi Order and Council greatly to the point I feel like Obi Wan is the only that had not lost his way. The way Golden writes the council meetings makes you feel tense and uneasy showing how clouded by the dark side they were and how desperate they had become to end the war.
Overall an absolutely thrilling Clone Wars novel that gives fans the endings they were looking for after its terrible orginal cancellation. Highly recommend.

love The Clone Wars, but I'm not usually a fan of franchise novelisations. That said, I really, really enjoyed this, more than I was expecting to. It was a fascinating look at the grey area between the Light and Dark side of the Force, with a lot more insight into the hubris of the Jedi and the desperation to end the Clone Wars by any means necessary. The love story felt a little out of character for Ventress and personally I think a slow burn type of story would have suited her better, but at the same time, I didn't hate it. I just wish that Ventress had a little more agency in the last third of the book instead of following Vos around.

The ending killed me, though. In a good way. But I'm still dead.

Lost for words. It’s good. It’s romantic. It’s slow to pick up but half way through it picks up and gets heavy. A few plot holes but I liked this story more than Ashoka.

Also added a trigger warning for animal death.
I really was unnerved by the killing of a fictional ancient beast. Killing of snakes and an ancient octopus crustaceans counts as animal death right?

It’s never really explained why Vos is back being tortured by Dooku. Also it was 3v1 for Dooku at a point. Why did Anakin, Obi-wan and Ventress loose? In the end it was questioned why Dooku turned on Vos. It’s clear he only used him to get him out of the predicament.

It’s all about use or be used. Heartbreaking end. I couldn’t put the book down and cried.

Come for the unaired clone wars episodes, stay for the “you look… like the rest of my life” romance.

This was fun! You can definitely tell that this book was originally going to be episodes in the Clone Wars TV show. But overall a good time even if I'm
so annoyed that Ventress went out this way. IDK her redemption arc was great but booooo to her ending.
. I'm a big fan of Jedi in love and Ventress and this has both in spades. Also, this has a great depiction of the Jedi order at its best and now I'm thinking that if Anakin had ever once thought about his actions ever and chosen to do the hard thing of owning his mistakes that the Order would have taken him back like they did Vos!
