The story is pretty average. It might have worked better as the intended Clone Wars series arc. In novel form, it often feels disjointed and provides action for the sake of providing something for the characters to do. The love story works at some level, and I think that is to the credit of its author. The final act seems a bit rushed and unsatisfying. The strength of this novel is the characterization of Asajj Ventress and her ultimate exemption. Star Wars fans, and particularly those who really enjoyed the Clone Wars series will enjoy the book well enough.

If you loved Clone Wars, I cannot stress this enough: read this book. It’s so well written and a wonderful story and you will fall in love with Quinlin and Ventress if you weren’t already. Quinlin in particular is such an interesting character.

This book has me for a bit but it got too long. I only really cared about Ventriss from the get go and they squandered my beautiful bald baddie.

This was an exceptional read, especially if you’re a fan of The Clone Wars. The novel delves deeply into Ventress’ character and her complex relationship with Vos. It’s both beautiful and heartbreaking. I feel like you don’t even have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy this story.

It’s probably a 3.5 stars but I rounded up because it’s one of the better Star Wars novels I’ve read. It’s kinda sexy, definitely saucier than other SW canon, and I loved that. Nothing graphic but enough romance to get my heart fluttering. The ending let me down a bit but the emotion throughout and the dialogue between our leads made up for it. Great for clone wars fans, probably not for casual fans.
