This week is banned books week, and I wanted to read at least 1 book that was banned. So I asked people from Goodreads to recommend me a few books.

This one was apparently banned because, well, for the simple reason of having a family that is not your standard one. Instead of a Mommy and a Daddy, this little girl has 2 Mommies.

I really loved this book, and while you could clearly see the age of the book (drawings), it was also clearly ahead of its age because of the subject.

Poor Heather, luckily her mothers are there to help her out when people ask about her Daddy. And of course kids are easy and soon they find out a lot of children have more than one Mommy or Daddy (because parents divorce and remarry).

I would really recommend this book to everyone. I think this would be a wonderful reading material for kids, since it teaches about love, about family, about a whole lot more. This book made me smile and cheer.

"Each family is special. The most important thing about a family is that all the people in it love each other."

Short quick read!

A classic. This is one of those books of known about for a long time, but I don't remember ever reading. This book is on the 100 most challenged books from 2010 to 2019. The idea that this book would be banned in the United States is unthinkable. The book itself has okay serviceable art and readable text. It tell the story of one little girl and her moms. And then her first day at school. And all of the kids draw their families. We don't know if the kids are drawing their entire set of the people they live with, they just draw who they draw. But the message is clear, that families are not all the same and that's okay. This is sweet and simple and not overdone.

And looking at other reviews, perhaps it had redone art at one point. Now I want to chase down the book with the other art.

Well, it seems I have missed out with part of the story. I have never been able to see this in any local library in my different places I've lived. But I found it in my newest library. Evidently, there used to be a section where one of the mommies has IVF so the two mommies can have a baby.

I thought it was a very cute book and it teaches kids about the many types of families we have. As we can see when the kids at school drew pictures of their families. Mom and dad, mama and mama, Grandma, daddy and papa, and more. The illustrations were cute too.

This book was banned/challenged because of the fact that Heather has two mommies and no daddy. And I'm sure the whole IVF part was offensive to some.
