I liked this more than I expected because the creepy doll/dollhouse trope in horror does not appeal to me at all, but this story covers a lot of plot and strings in a cosmic horror element that works nicely into the climax. The denouement was a bit rushed, but this was otherwise a fulfilling adventure. It’s a bit basic, but competent.

at the end the novel the author discusses the original pitch - I liked that story better than the final product - artwork superb, story fine -

The Dollhouse Family is a weird mixture of large cosmic horror and an intimate look at a women and her dollhouse. I thought all the elements worked well together, and enjoyed seeing the way things unfolded through multiple points of time. The horror aspects were fun and gruesome at times. The character aspects were honest and heartbreaking. It all came together in an intriguing and satisfying way that makes this a book to definitely recommend.
