I very much disliked this book. The main character girl was extremely hard to relate to, and the boy was the same. The story came off very disjointed and did not mesh at all. There was no flow to it and the "twist" was obvious from the very beginning.

This book is for teens or young adults, but I really enjoyed it. My daughter snuck it onto my bookshelf so I would read it.

Absolutely preposterous, completely obvious, at times genuinely bad, definitely fails the Bechdel test - but I'm not scaling this on my usual literature scale. This is an absolute five star slapper of a ridiculous middle school read. Even at his worst, Shusterman is better than most.

Spoiler for anyone older than twelve who even glances at the cover: this is a Gorgon story. It proceeds thusly, with a teenage Gorgon making bad teen Gorgon decisions, and our hapless narrator wandering right in to a bad teen Gorgon trap. (If it isn't obvious enough, Tara's surname is Herpecheveux, which, Neal. NEAL. Neal, this is an intervention, we all care about you very much, stop this. +D )

Let your kiddo read this on the beach or in a treehouse or something.

This book had some interesting twists, and it was kind of a nightmare, but compared to his other series, which I loved, this was boring.

a horror story about when white people have dreads. and a retelling of goldilocks that turns out to be fused with medusa! this was ahead of its time and i still think about it. it didn't hit as hard as duckling ugly, but duckling ugly is a high bar.

The end was good, but I didn't find the main character, Parker, believable.

I think that this book had a good concept, but for me it just didn't follow through in the 'interesting' category. Honestly, I didn't like the girl, Tara, from the beginning. She was pretty jerky. Also, I just don't get the dark chills from this book everybody else gets... I mean, it's pretty obvious what is happening. This book is very predictable, so I don't see the shock factor some people get. Then some of the parts were just so slow it took me a while just to read them. Then to top it all off, the ending was horrible. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
