Camila Flores is a practicing teenage witch and had her world crumbled to dust when her only best friend, Riley, had allegedly committed suicide. Naturally, Mila does the pretty obvious path to getting her answers to her BFF's questionable death- bring her back to life! Easy-peasy. But she also manages to snag 2 more undead mean girls of her school too.

The premise of this book is fairly interesting and had me zooming on it not long after. I really love Mila's development, because, for one, she was unable to separate herself from the "witch duo" title she had w/ Riley. She always looked to her best friend before taking action, she was aimless and hadn't figured out who she really is as an individual. Later on, Mila was able to get past all her insecurities and had finally solidified her identity. This book does not only tackle teenage growth, it also does a fine job of calling out problematic behavior among teens.
“And, for fuck’s sake, stop using ‘normal’ as code for ‘white’,” I snap. “Your life isn’t the ruler that the rest of the world gets measured against.”

I love this line so much hahahah and how Mila pointed out to June all the bad sht she had been doing. Dayton was your typical bubbly naive girl, but I really adored her.

Although I fairly loved the entire book, I also cringed at some of the crucial points. For one, I kind of got an overdose of Mila's sarcasm and sometimes it gets really waaaay overboard. I find it too much and I guess it had a lot more to do w/ the author's writing. Though she'd made Mila's voice pretty snarky and hilarious, there are some points when there's just too much purple prose bruising the narrative. For example: "Like a dark flower blooming on his lips" these types of metaphors really had me cringing (and fairly reminds me of [b:Caraval|27883214|Caraval (Caraval, #1)|Stephanie Garber|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1465563623s/27883214.jpg|45697227]'s nonsensical metaphors although this ones toned down and leans more on the teenage babble)
Spoiler Aside from that, the romantic subplot going on with Xander for me wasn't executed properly or just seemed implausible. Although the nature of their "love" is explained it was quite inexcusable for me HAHAHAH. (I'm so sorry)

I guess I'm just really getting old and I'm not able to appreciate these types of YA relationships in literature anymore. The book was leaning more on the witchy element rather than the zombie thing and I truly appreciated it more because of that. Although, I really wanted to delve more in that aspect, I didn't get a super intricate one, I really didn't care if there would be a lot of info dump in the witchy aspect huhuhu. Overall, I fairly loved the book and recommend it to every teen out there who loves all things witchy and well, revenge and teenage drama.

This was a good read. I could see myself in the Wiccan high school girls who lacked a lot of friends. The who done it was a total surprise to me and added something extra to it. If you like YA and want some magic in with your teenage angst, this is for you.

I really wanted to like this more, but it just didn't work for me. I didn't like Riley and couldn't see how she and Mila were friends. I slowly fell for June and Dayton but sometimes I was like "that's not something a person says."

The concept was great, but I felt like it was kinda... surface level? I think I wanted something deeper than this, but form the start you can tell it's more of a funny book than a serious book, which is fine, I just never got in the right mindset to appreciate it, I think.

Parts of this book are really cute. I really enjoyed our main characters attitude, her body posi self esteem, and her ability to grow and forgive people who previously she hated. Once she gets to know them better or at all they all grow. I enjoyed that. I also really enjoyed the witch bits that was fun.

The parts of this book that I was not a fan of.... gross love interest mental conversations in really horrible external situations like funerals and such I was like wow this is so not what my brain would be going over at this point in time. I also was not a huge fan of the lets be a bitch to everyone just cause thing our narrator had going on. It really made no sense.

The ending was pretty good and overall it was an alright reading experience.

This was a book about grief, that had some fun moments to lighten the difficult subject matter. Mila was a character I enjoyed rooting for, and I love how the four girls became friends at the end.

3.5/4 stars. i definitely really enjoyed my time reading this book. it’s really funny, and made me laugh out loud multiple times. there definitely wasn’t anything wrong with this book, and it’s just one of those books that i can’t really explain why i didn’t give it a higher rating. i really liked mila, and i thought all the other characters were great too. i think just the climax wasn’t that surprising to me but that’s really the only thing. i definitely mad me happy tho, which is why it might be closer to a 4 than a 3.5.

4.5 stars! I really loved this but there were some parts where I wanted more. And definitely needed less of the mushrooms. The description and visualization made my skin crawl! Other than that it’s a phenomenal book that I really enjoyed!
