I watched the movie so many times in my Italian class while in high school. so I figured I'd finally read the book. it ends the same exact way it does in the movie.

I had to read this twice because every time they said Owly at the end I kept thinking about Baby Owl. Blame it on me multitasking. This wasn't my favorite story but the illustrations are cute and Baby Owl is adorable holding onto Owly. I think the author has an awesome author picture.

"I'm Not Scared" is a short tale of a hot summer that spells the end to a young Italian boy's childhood. Whilst playing with his friends in an abandoned old ruin, Michele makes a discovery that will change the way he sees his friends and family, and forces him to take giant strides towards his adult life. Michele must confront his fears, both real and imaginary, and try to discover for himself what the right thing is, in a world that seems to be crumbling about him.

The idea of the novel is a good one, but it's all over so quickly that it's difficult to get properly absorbed. It may be the fact that the story is told from the simplistic child's view, that you want to ask more questions, want more resolutions than the author is willing to give. Like Soldiers of Salamis, it's an interesting little book, but one I wanted a little more from.
