This book is more a short story, or a short letter. It broke my heart.

Great imagery and powerful words. The story is a sad and unfortunate one, and Housseini really knows how to capture and utilize empathy to convey such strong emotions.

The illustrations are beautiful. The poem flow well, and it was a very sad, good book.

Less a poem and more an actual prayer. This is very slight and impactful. It feels like a reaching back to better times for safety. It's also filled the kind of hope that is less inspirational and more brought on by terror. The real standout here are Dan William's incredible illustrations which really transport you into the nostalgia and terror throughout.

Inspired by the drowning of a 3 year old Syrian refugee, this story is simple yet heartbreaking.
