I get that this series has its issues, and that some writing choices are mind-numbing and just plain odd, but I sat down and read this 700 page book in two sittings. Troublesome or not, it swept me away and didn’t let me up until the last page. I am deeply disappointed in Morrigan’s resolution, or lack thereof. I hope that if the series continues, she gets more character growth and less trauma. Also, there is no way in hell any kiddo should read this. I’m a sex positive person, but would be seriously pissed if my early teen grabbed this fantasy book from the library when it’s essentially light erotica. But I am decidedly NOT a teen, and enjoyed it a bunch ;)

This series has just gotten better with every book. I love the way Feyre uses her new skills in this. The small comedic moments between the major plot points. Her snark to everyone. We get to visit more Courts, and get heavy amounts of description, and it's beautiful. There was a lot of drama in this one as Feyre's sisters feature heavily. I love the way secrets are built and then revealed. I also really liked the bit of redemption we see for some of the people the main cast pissed off. I am not a huge fan of battles being heavily described. The battle scenes were very to the point, which I enjoyed. I struggled with Tolkien due to the battle scenes. I appreciate that though most of the plot for this is War, it's not like, heavily gorey.

I did not like some of the twists. Stop making me cry. Ugh. That was pretty much my only dislike.

I‘d say the pace is a bit weird at places. The first 100p a lot happens, then nothing for 300p or so and then the finale hits. That finale is grand though. And though I wish some characters had been integrated into the sory better and focused on more, if you love the main characters you‘ll have a splendid time.
The author is very good at
capturing the main characters’ trauma as well as writing genuine horror elements into the plot where you least expect them.
Any complains I do have mostly stem from the previous two installments and differnece in taste between me and the author. I can respect that she focuses on other aspects of the story and characters and her disregard for things I would have love to see.

Again, waaaaaaay too long. There were unnecessary scenes, and scenes that dragged on. Oh, and an appalling lack of Lucien.
Also, if Rhys is the most powerful High Lord in Prythian history why can’t he just turn Hybern’s entire army into red mist. Bada bing bada boom, done in 5 minutes. No need for 700 whole pages. That’s the problem with writing a character that’s sooooo powerful.

Moving on, I liked that we finally got some queer representation in this series, however it did feel like Maas just had a lightbulb moment and went “shit, I have no queer characters. Better chuck them in now for some diversity “. 🤦🏻‍♀️

As for our newly minted high fae Archeron sisters, Elain is still boring, doing (mostly) nothing for the whole book and Nesta is still the prickliest woman to ever exist. At least in this book she’s got a reason to be. My problem with Nesta as a character is that she only seems to have one emotional level: angry. Which makes her feel a bit two dimensional. Also, it’s super obvious that Nesta and Cassian are going to be mates at some point.

Oddly enough, the element I liked most about this book was the politics and negotiations between the various courts. Fryer’s shenanigans at the Spring Court at the beginning of the book we’re great (though I guess ended up being redundant and counterproductive, ugh), and the meeting with all the High Lords was a highlight (I’m still salty Lucien wasn’t there though).

It’s hard to write a non-spoiler filled review and express all my thoughts. *sigh*
