The good:
- the nature writing is beautiful. It is descriptive and calming. I myself love nature descriptions in books and this book had some of the most beautiful ones.
- As a massive bookworm this book was very dreamy to me. I mean, every bookworm has dreamt of starting their own bookshop. I felt like I was vicariously living that dream through this book.
The bad:
- I found the romance in this book lacking in depth and honestly weird. The main character obsesses about guys in an almost creepy and objectifying way. I found myself wondering why Nina liked the guys she liked. She fell in love basically based on nothing and the romance would progress uncomfortably quickly. Going from zero to a hundred in like one chapter. I think this book would’ve been so much better without any romance. Or a single love interest with actual development.
- For a book about a bookshop, I personally would’ve liked more scenes set in the actual bookshop.
- The main character is seriously unlikable and self obsessed. She doesn’t think about the consequences of her actions or decides to simply ignore them. She just gave me the ick. I hoped I would relate to a book and nature loving main character, but I found myself annoyed by her pretty frequently.
Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Child abuse and Sexism
