guess what! men without women suck!

Murakami is my all time favourite writer but this book has to be one of the weaker collections. Most of the men were more insufferable than usual which I guess was the point but it made it hard to read.

BUT! this has the story Kino which is so reminiscent of Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman — it saved the whole thing. So my advice is read Kino and Drive My Car and skip the rest. Especially Scheherazade >:-(

This was my first brush with Japanese surrealism, and I enjoyed it. Murakami's writing style truly is a work of art, and I liked the male-female interactions as the running theme throughout the stories.
