It's always fun to read a retelling of a well-known tale, but I adore the twist at the end of Fanny's Dream! I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book.

The cover of the book is misleading, but that's the beauty of the story. Fanny is a girl that has a dream: to marry a prince and never do any work again. Fanny stays strong and keeps her dream until she gets a marriage proposal from a local boy who owns land.
She thinks that she is giving up her dream, but at the end of the book Fanny and the reader realize that reality is so much better than a fairy tale. While her reality is more work than her 'dream,' Fanny has a husband that treats her like a princess, works by her side, and gives her lots of laughs.
The illustrations in the book are very nicely done and have some fun details. I loved that I could always find shapes in the clouds and I loved that a frequent subject in the pictures is a little mouse that makes itself at home with Fanny.

Fanny wants to marry a Prince or something like that-something like the mayor’s son. On the night of the ball she waits for her fairy godmother and is laughed at by people. A man, Fanny knows comes to talk to her as she waits. He proposes marriage and Fanny decides that her dreams were childish and does so. Her fairy godmother comes years later and in the end Fanny decides she is happy with the life she chosen. The moral of the story is that we do not need a prince to be happy.

I am in love with this book! I don't know whether or not kids like it, but it is a great read for any married woman! Fanny is a sturdy and hard working girl. She gives up her dreams of being married to a prince to marry a farmer. The rest of the book outlines all of the struggles and joys that come with marriage and raising a family. But would Fanny trade it all in for the opportunity to have that life she always dreamed of?
The artwork is beautiful. The story is a great reminder of the important things in life. Such a wonderful book!
