It was fine. I wasn't on the edge of my seat, but I don't regret reading it.

What is better in a mystery than an unreliable narrator?!? When I don’t know who to trust, it makes the entirety of the story that much more interesting. It turns the story into a game of whodunnit and I spend my time making wild assumptions about the killer.

The Coworker is spent between two perspectives: that of the seemingly perfect girl, Natalie, and the weird girl who’s obsessed with turtles, Dawn. Making those distinctions is important, because the entire story is based on what is essentially those descriptions. Early on, we find out that Dawn is missing and all signs are pointing at her coworker, Natalie.

We go back and forth from Natalie’s view of what is happening now and emails that Dawn has sent to a friend of hers, Mia. While we are with Natalie, we begin to see that she may not remember or have a clear view of things. She spends time second guessing bits of time and with Dawn’s emails, we start second guessing Natalie. It all seems to be her trying to cover her tracks, but the funny thing about the unreliable narrator is that it tends to not be them who committed the crime… which in turn made me look at everyone else around her.

I really enjoyed this book. Being that it was my first Freida McFadden, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it, but I see more of her books in my future.

See? She’s capable of writing an engaging and entertaining book.
This isn’t a thriller masterpiece with tons of twists and unbelievable killers but it was very entertaining.

*This review is based on the audiobook.*

I don't really have much to say about this book but unfortunately it was the author's worst so far for me.

The premise was good but I found it too predictable; I really wasn't surprised by any of the reveals.

I also found the writing to be rather stilted which sounded quite jarring whilst listening to the audio.

Lastly none of the characters were likeable in the slightest.

I do still rate the author as one of my favourite thriller author's and hopefully this was a blip.

I was lucky enough to score an ARC of The Coworker by our queen and savior Freida McFadden. Let me just start this review off by saying WHAT!!?!

The twists! The turns! The red herrings! The big reveal! I was so genuinely invested in this story that I caught myself crying on more than one occasion. Let me sum it up for you:

Dawn Schiff likes turtles. I mean she REALLY likes turtles. Enough that she has a problem making friends because of it. But in addition to her love of those shelled little buddies, she also loves routine. Which is why her coworker Natalie is shocked when Dawn doesn't show up for work. She decides to head over to Dawn's house but what she finds will leave you (shell) shocked!

Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 star read from Freida and I'm so thankful I was able to read it in advance!

Publication date is August 29th, don't forget to pre-order!
