I am once again astounded by the charm and wit of Lemony Snicket. These characters continue to grow on me in ways I didn’t think I would connect with in a middle grade book. Highly anticipating the last instalment of this brilliant series.

It took me forever to get a copy of this book, literal years, the fact that there's seemingly no audiobook doesn't help. This book felt more like set up than a single contained story like the previous two. But still, the series is fun and I'm definitely going to finish it next year.

Every bit as fun as the previous book! The mystery here isn't as tightly plotted or completely engaging, but the series narrative arc is assembling quite nicely. At this point, the setting and major players have been well established and Snicket is bringing everything together in an intriguing manner that perfectly compliments and enhances the world of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Hangfire's presence and influence are ever prevalent throughout the story, and I look forward to discovering how Lemony and his trusted associates work to unveil his master plan and bring him down in the final book.

Still enjoying them enough. I did read this one kind of scattered about so I feel like I wasn't following along--by the time I returned to finish it I was a bit hazy on some of the details. But love an Olaf reference and fun to see Josephine again.

I didn't like this one as much as I liked the first 2, but the fragmented plot part was fun and clever

Alas, I wish I hadn't read the previous volume so long ago. I felt like I was missing some of the context. Nevertheless I enjoyed it, especially the quote, "You can't wait for an untroubled world to have an untroubled moment." That is SO Lemony Snicket. And true.

I purchased this book at my local Barnes and Noble with my own funds and was not obligated in any way to review it.

Kept feeling like I was reading the austere academy again because the school setting was reused. There was a count Olaf cameo in the form of graffiti, I have been waiting for that. I was surprised snicket was so forthright about VFD and it’s mission statement to all these new friends that may or may not be trustworthy, especially Ellington who I do not trust. Kids book that uses the word epistemology. Spoilers: I am very curious to see where the bombinating beast creature goes because that to me is crossing a line into fantasy that this series has treaded so far. I could accept it if there is a plausible enough explanation. Maybe. Anyway I liked this the least of all I’ve read so far, probably because it was giving answers but I’m getting a bit fatigued of staind
By the sea.

It's got it's ups and downs, this one. You start getting comfortable in this world and many things do happen, but the bedrock mysteries are still untouched (and frustratingly so). Snicket's pacing and writing keeps you hooked though!
