Jan2022 - 2nd listen. Still really good. Still wish the one sided nature of the “arrangement” ended a bit earlier. Still super steamy. Still wishing this narrator did more lesfic audio books.

I listened to this on Audible and at first I was concerned the Southern accent of one of the characters was going to annoy me but it turned out to be a non-issue. I loved this story but as if went on I started to be a bit concerned with the direction it continued to go but was relieved when the relationship started to be more then one sided. The ending was really sweet. I would love to read another book that continues their story. Also...It is hella steamy... like I am surprised my iPhone didn't burst into flames a few times. You've been warned. :)

I think that Roslyn Sinclair is such a great romance writer. I really loved The Lily and the Crown, so I was a bit disappointed that this book didn’t live up to that for me. I was still immediately addicted to the novel and stayed up to the very early hours of the morning to read it. There is something about Sinclair’s writing that just makes me want to inhale the story as fast as I can.

Where this story was successful was the pure heat and chemistry between our main characters. This book hasn’t some of the best sex scenes that I have ever read. Sinclair perfectly elevates the heat and tension between our main characters to a point of an inferno. I really can’t downplay the chemistry between Laurie and Diana. So if you are looking for a steamy workplace romance, then you really can’t get better than this one.

But that’s about it. I feel like the chemistry/steamy scenes were the most well-thought-out aspect of the novel. The character-development and plot in particular just felt like they were lacking. I never really grew to love or even really care for the characters beyond their chemistry. I don’t even really think that an emotional and deeper connection was really developed between our characters. In addition to this, the plot just felt so weak and was stagnant for much too long. I feel like it was promising at the beginning, but once the book started to get more steamy, the plot just flatlined. This made a book that was initially so addictive became much less captivating. At the end, I did feel that the book really picked up. I just wished some of its great aspects (like the beginning/end, good writing and the chemistry) carried into the plot and characters throughout the book.
