Another enjoyable Shetland mystery. I love getting to know the detectives and the people living on the Shetland Islands. This one was a bit creepy - about a local legend of a girl who drowned in the 20s. The legend says the appearance of her ghost helps couples get pregnant. Detective Perez is on the case when a young woman, Eleanor, goes missing after claiming to see the ghost.

Another enjoyable atmospheric Shetland story.
It follows several characters including the local police officers and the friends of a murdered wedding guest. The story is complicated but eventually all is revealed and I had not guessed who the murderer was.

After having recently read a less than brilliant whodunnit, this little gem by a master wordsmith was a breath of fresh air. Of course, as for all whodunnits, there's a formula, but the interplay of the characters and the complexities in the back story of the various characters (including the investigators) give this book life. And I didn't spot the killer on this occasion until they showed themselves which was pleasing.

Despite the rating here this isn't actually a bad book, it's just much slower and smaller then crime stories that I normally enjoy, but that kind of suits the territory of the Shetland islands from what I understand.
The book is well written, has a better then average use of language, is evenly, but slowly, paced, has solid non-contradictory characterisation, and even manages to fit a few twists into a story with maybe 15 significant characters.
