I didnt like Overstory
This surpasses that as in careless to cavalier portrayal of people and their impt relationships. i think he doesnt place his feet in world of reality. its really insulting to fathers mothers teachers boys who have problems.

Richard Powers is just different. Bewilderment maintains the adoration for nature and call to action of the overstory, while narrowing the focus down to a single father son bond. Personally I love the way he wrote Theo and robins dynamic, it felt so real and that can be really hard to achieve. I also thought all the imaginary planets were really fun to read about and fit with the story so well. Overall really great book, especially if you like nature or exploring the challenges and successes of fathers raising their sons.

Flowers for Algernon with the Richard Powers twist! (He cops to the comparison himself in the book...). A boy with behavior problems learns to live inside his dead mother's brain and begins to see the world differently. Then he doesn't. It's Powers, so there's lots of science (exoplanets, natural history, psychology) and stuff pulled from the modern headlines (that mostly seem like an afterthought). An engaging read with a not-so-satisfying ending.
