Wait.. will there be a second book? I need to know who the creator is.

I picked the audiobook up on a whim to listen to on my commute, and I'm glad I did. It was a unique story that appealed to my inner steampunk sensibilities, and it's very different from most other things I've been reading. I appreciated how it brought together the past and the present through June and Peter's stories, and how you could see everything progressing over centuries between the two perspectives. I didn't love the audiobook narrators, but that's not the fault of the book and they weren't so bad I couldn't finish it. Overall a unique sci-fi story that's worth a go.

I was very intrigued when I read the synopsis of The Clockwork Dynasty. Everything I loved about sci-fi fantasies was contained in this book. I was bored to be honest. I enjoyed the characters and all but I didn't feel like I needed to be in this world. I could not attach myself to any one character or feel like I want to live in this world. I was to reiterate, this was not a bad book by any means, it just was not what I was hoping for.

This book got me out of my genre comfort zone. There were some really great ideas throughout but I often felt lost when things were slow. I loved the history and travel bits which I think helped the plot progress and provide background understanding for the present actions. I really enjoyed the characters of the avtomats, but the main human character June did not do anything for me. Liked the ideas and concepts but would probably never reread in the future.
