I'm not usually a graphic novel fan (that's definitely more my sister's forte) but I was holding this for her at the bookstore, started reading it, and actually stole it from her so I could finish it, haha! It was really good. I think the Kara that is presented here (I've seen a couple seasons of the TV show) is a dynamic, relatable character. It's a good origin story, with great art, and stands up well on its own. The emotion of the novel is conveyed well, both through the art and the dialogue. I was able to connect with the story. I would definitely recommend reading it if you enjoy superheroes, teenage heroines, and graphic novels! 4 stars.

I read this for ladies’ night at my local comicbook store, and I really didn’t know what to expect. I love DC, but I’ve never tried Superman, or Supergirl. Surprisingly, I flew through this in about an hour.

I will admit, I do not know much about Supergirl (any version of Supergirl) and even less about Kara, but Mariko Tamaki has written a character I couldn't help but love. The struggles of a young girl trying to figure out who she is, her place in the world, and why she's so different mix with the pains of puberty and high school. She's both an angsty teenage girl and an alien with too many secrets to shoulder.

Kara's relationships with her friends and family really showcase all the love she has in her heart, how much she cares for them, and how they've changed and made her. It's a point of the story that I really love, as it ties in well with Superman/Clark Kent's story of being so powerful, but still choosing to be kind and gentle because of the people in his life. Supers are made by the people who make a place in their lives, and that is clear in Kara's story.

The art was amazing, I adore how color was used in this story, and the paneling is something I can talk about for ages. This is definitely a DC graphic novel that can't be skipped.

Una buena historia de origen dibujada por Joelle Jones, nadie dibuja chicas como ella, de todas maneras posibles pero resultando siempre hiperatractivas.

I received an ARC from NetGalley & DC Entertainment in exchange for my honest review.

First, that zit popping is the most delightfully gross thing I have ever seen.

This book is so engaging and it's nice to see the origin story for Supergirl.
