"Love and disease are both like electricity... They are always there- you can't see or smell or hear, touch, or taste them, but you know they are there like a current in the air." -Francesca Lia Block

I don't get the hype but at the same time it's so deeply bizarre that I haven't fully ruled out reading the other ones??

I didn't realize this was going to turn into a fantasy when i started reading. It was weird. I don't think I would have liked it as a kid either. I'm not really sure why this book exists or why people talk about it. I can't pinpoint anything note worthy. It's a light, quick read, but that's all.

How could I have forgotten this book that introduced me to magical realism?

The worst book I've read in a long time. Not only is the plot something of, what I assume to be, a drug-induce fever-dream, but the main character is insanely inappropriate with cultural appropriation and Native American stereotyping.
