Loved the chance to re-read this. Monster Pulse is a great webcomic, but it reads even better all in one sitting in printed book form. This second volume recently arrived after being Kickstarted, and I am so pleased! The book itself is beautifully printed. I like the new smaller format of the second volume, as compared to the first, as it feels more hand-held and compact. The color pages in it really pop, though I do appreciate the older black and white artwork. Can't wait for the next volumes, when she started working with full color.

I had forgotten much of what was in this volume, for some reason the first volume's story was more memorable, with the character introductions. The little moments are what carry this one for me. There are really lovely story arcs in Phantom Limbs. It starts out with an adorable competition between Julie and her monster Kera, and Bina and her Ayo, racing to see who has the fastest monster. Adorable. It also introduces Nancy and Red, has some great Lulenksi and Shell insight, and some character development in the form of introducing new side characters. Top it all off with some unrequited love! There's so much heart and courage in this little graphic novel.
