After Storm Siren, my main question was: "How does an author follow up killing all of the main characters aside from the narrator?"

Wanting the answer to that question, I bought Siren's Fury.

The answer is you don't. You don't follow up at all. There's not much to follow up with. I can't truly express just how bored I was reading this book. It took all the willpower that was within me just to flip to the next page.

One thing I'll never tolerate in fiction is stupid heroines. It's SO annoying. It'll never not be annoying to have people make really, really stupid decisions while everyone around them shouts, "THIS IS A STUPID DECISION" and then they do it anyway, because why not?

The plot felt stagnant and at times contrived. A lot of it was repetitive.

Honestly the only reward for me in this book was finally being done with it.

2.5 stars; I found Siren's Fury to be a rather frustrating read. Nym made some really stupid decisions. She did a lot of acting on emotion instead of thinking things through. In the first book, Storm Siren I thought Nym was portrayed as a slave pretty well, even though we only got her memories of this owner and that owner and next to no back story on that part of her life. This time though, I felt like Nym being a former slave just didn't ring true, because anyone who has been a slave for almost their entire life would know when to keep quiet and say nothing instead of continuously objecting to something that they are powerless to change and their objections will only make a situation worse.

I also felt that too many of the good characters were killed off in book one and there wasn't anyone likeable enough to replace them in this book. Rasha was ok, and we did get a few moments where it looked like a real friendship was blossoming there with her and Nym, but it kept being ruined partly by Nym's stupidity and partly by Rasha's refusal to tell Nym things that were important, which is another thing that annoyed me about the book, too many people keeping vital information to themselves for no good reason. Kel, at first was an interesting character, but then disappeared for a huge chunk of the book. I was beginning to wonder why he was even introduced but then it became obvious that his character was just a device to spur Nym on to doing something stupid. This is the point where I felt like Nym being a former slave didn't ring true. And maybe that would have made more since and felt less stupid if there had actually been a lot more interaction between Nym and Kel to begin with, but as it was written, they really barely knew each other.

I got a little bored with the repetitiveness of the story. How many times did Nym try to get rid of Draewulf? I lost count. She and everyone else in the book just seemed so inept through most of it. There were other little things that bothered me, like the airship suddenly dipping and they are all still standing on the deck instead of being knocked off their feet, but I guess the biggest problem I had with this book was that I just didn't like Nym the way I did in the first book. I missed the powerful Storm Siren from book one.

So over-all this was a disappointing read that has an unresolved ending. It's book two in a trilogy and I probably will end up reading book three to see how it all ends, and in hopes that the last book is on par with the first one.

This dark fantasy moves at a breathtaking pace, keeping readers engaged from page one to the very end. Weber creates disturbing visions that will satisfy horror fans while considering the dangers of power without compassion, upending Nym’s life further with another cliffhanger revelation that ensures readers will be waiting anxiously for the next title.

Nym is determined to save Eogan from being completely consumed by Draewulf. Time is not on her side, so in spite of Rasha’s warnings, she puts her life on the line for a chance to gain the control she needs to protect countless innocents, as well as the man she loves. So, this book was a bit of a quandary. If you'll recall from my review of the first book in this series, I loved the supporting characters but wasn't a huge fan of Nym's unwillingness to fight. I also desperately wished for more world-building and less romance. Picking up Siren's Fury, I mouthed a silent wish that those things would be altered and started reading. Bright side, they were! Down side, not quite the way I'd hoped.

Let's start with the positive points. First off, I was finally given a Nym who had some fire! Granted, it took a decent portion of the story for her to get to that point, but I cheered her on as she finally made actual decisions instead of waffling back and forth. I liked her character much more this time around and, although I missed some of the characters from the first book, it made this read much quicker and more enjoyable. Oh sure, Nym's decisions weren't always fabulous. Still, I was happy to see a girl who was willing to fight back. There still wasn't quite the amount of world-building I was hoping for, but Bron did come sharper into focus. This time around I finally felt like I was more firmly settled into the story. While Nym, Rasha and Lord Myles were hatching their schemes, I was right on board.

Sadly, the two things I asked for were there in place of the two things I loved the first time. As I mentioned, my favorite characters weren't in this particular book. I missed Colin's humor, and his ability to break up the monotony. Also Nym spends a lot of time in her head, trying to make heads or tails of the things she has facing her. That meant that all the new characters, including Rasha, didn't get much face time. They felt a little flat. As for the romance? Well, it was definitely much less of an issue in this story. Except, the emotional ties were still very much there. Nym made a lot of bad decisions because of her inability to separate emotion from action.

So, once again, I have to give this book three stars. I definitely enjoyed it much more than the first, and I'm glad to see that Nym is developing as a character! Alas, I don't think I'll be following her to the final book in this trilogy. It's not a bad series, by any means. It's more that I'm looking for something to blow me away.

*This review contains spoilers from Storm Siren*

The ending to Storm Siren was painful, Mary took your heart stomped on it and then ripped it into a million pieces. I will admit, because of that ending I was terrified to dive into Siren's Fury, was it going to break my heart? Was there still a possibility of saving Eogan? Mary Weber sucked me back into the world of Storm Siren, leaving me dying to know what was going to happen next.

Siren's Fury picks up right before Storm Siren ends, giving the readers a chance to relive the news of Eogan's death. It was much more painful the second time around. I can summarize the whole book for you and you are going to be like "What? That makes no sense." So I am doing this review a little differently.

This book includes:

A horrible villain
A heroine that looses a bit of her sanity'
Dark magic
Rich world building
Plot twist after plot twist
Impending war, death, and other horrible things
Growing to actually like Myles (I know, I know *shivers*)
Heart breaking decisions

I loved Nym even more in Siren's Fury, she wasn't the perfect cookie cutter heroine that you typically see in YA novels. She is determined and a bit desperate causing her to make a ton of stupid mistakes. But she learned from her mistakes through out the story, in the end her best strengths was her compassion and love for the people she cared about. It is ultimately what saves her life. It made her seem all the ore human to me.

We learn alot more about Rasha and Myles in this book. I adore Rasha, in all honesty I wouldn't even mind if Mary wrote a spin off all about her. I loved getting to see her and Nym's friendship flourish through out the entirety of this book. Myles is still the same, disgusting creep he was in Storm Siren, only this time around he wants to ''help" Nym save Eogan and Faelon. Myles is simply power hungry and the thought of a payout in the end is the only thing that actually keeps him going.

Siren's Fury started off slow and I began to loose interest. At about the half way mark things began to pickup and I didn't want to put it down. The world building is heavy, but necessary for the reader to know in order to understand what is happening. Mary is able to build Nym's world with out making the reader bored and want to put the book down.

Overall, I LOVED Siren's Fury, and now eagerly awaiting news on book three!

I actually highly recommend reading this book during exam week.

Do you still want to read a book during exam week but without the risk of getting sucked into the story line and characters, hence jeopardizing your actual study time?
Then look no further, because Siren's Fury is the book for you!

Okay but seriously, my urge to read this book on a scale of 1 to 10 was in the negatives. My chemistry notes were more coherent than the plot and writing of this book.

There's just something about the way its written that makes this book incredibly difficult to immerse myself in. The plot was much too shallow and repetitive. I skimmed through pages of characters going, "Let's do this" and then they try to do it, and it doesn't work out- not to mention they never actually discussed a thorough plan with each other. Nothing is ever fleshed out properly (forget world building and character development- those things aren't important, am I right, guys?). There were so many scenes where Nym would use her 'new powers' and somewhat lose control and other characters- mostly Rasha- would be like, "Nym, no! This is bad!" and Nym would stop and declare that she was ready to face Draewulf now. This happened SO MANY TIMES.

The main character was a complete impulsive idiot throughout the book and she consistently ignored advice given to her by more level-headed characters. My opinion of her love interest is the same for what I thought of him during Book 1: bland and boring.

Despite now having read 2 out of 3 books in this trilogy, I don't even think I care enough about the poorly-composed plot and characters to want to continue. There are better books out there that would be worth your time.

Gods above and below, I though this book was gonna wreck me. It certainly used my heart as a punching bag for a little while. But wow, was it ever AWESOME. Such a compelling story where beloved characters become desperate, secrets are revealed, and sacrifices are made. I couldn't stop reading, and certain sections had me tearing up while the very end yanked some tears out of me. I absolutely loved the journey feisty Nym took to save both the man she loves and kingdoms from a terrifying creature. The characters, even the villains gained many more layers to their personalities, and nowhere was this more apparent than with Nym herself, who definitely took a darker turn as her desperation grew. The action was fantastic and the settings were endlessly creative. And good gods, the ending, I almost couldn't handle it. It seriously almost broke me. I can't recommend these books highly enough. They're ruthless on your emotions, but completely worth it in the end. I'm expecting the final book to be an absolute heart-wrencher, and I can't be more excited. DO NOT miss this series!
