This is a cute book with all the feels.
Lolly helps her dad run their family’s restaurant, making her mother’s “famous” Lemon Drop Pie with secret ingredients. She discovers an old journal with her dreams and realizes she hasn’t accomplished anything and feels stuck. Her great aunt Gert gives her three magic lemon drops that she can take to help her revisit her regrets and figure out how to follow her bliss.

For fans of The Midnight Library and Midnight at Blackbird Cafe.

Quotes

“I understood grief, and while a piece of coffee cake couldn’t soothe the pain of his wife’s passing, I knew from experience that little acts of kindness were often a balm for hurting hearts.” P7

“In the language of flowers, lemon balm means sympathy or good cheer… So every bite of this pie can help brighten someone’s day.” P17

“When we make a choice, we necessarily limit all the other choices. Each path narrows our options, every decision closes many other doors. Yet we make a choice hoping we’re trading all the other options for the one that will be the best.” P82

Honey, it sounds like whatever you’re holding on to is perhaps already broken and you’re just holding the pieces together and praying for some glue.” P270

“Sometimes things don’t work out the way we hoped, despite our best intentions. And when they go pear-shaped, you have to let them. You can’t keep holding on, trying to redo the past and stop the bad things from happening. They happened and you can’t change that. You can’t keep holding on to the vision of the future you imagined you’d have, the way you thought things would turn out. You have to let the present be what it is - broken, flawed, painful, but real.” P143

“Life I’ll give you plenty of lemons, Lolly…. I think you should take life’s lemons and do whatever you want with them, whatever brings you joy. Maybe you make a lemonade… But maybe you get some gin and make yourself and make yourself a strong double gin fizz.” P144

“You must your bliss, even in this. … Things feel dark, it’s true, but there will always be a spark of light. Follow that. It will show you where you need to go.” … “Some things aren’t meant to be mended… Sometimes it’s in the breaking that the light can finally shine through.” P264
