The Khan family viewed through the eyes of journalist and each other. An interesting glimpse into the lives, traditions and fears of a family and its extended members that otherwise would not have been possible.

Such a sad book, I was so disgusted by the treatment of women and the fact so many young girls are married off to old or older men. Also the amount of old men having a gaggle of young men/boys as lovers was unsettling.
Graphic: Sexism
Moderate: Pedophilia and Rape
Minor: Pedophilia

I had different expectations for this book and it just didn’t meet them. That isn’t to say it was a super terrible read, it just was hard for me to understand. Maybe it was the translation.

I put this book down for over a year so it was a bit disjointed read, but interesting view of life in Afghanistan.
