medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

If you are looking for Hades and Persepgonr, this is fine. However there are some books that are better on the character development, myth Lore, etc.

The story wasn't even that bad, but the writing? Oh, the writing style was abysmal. Most sentences made no sense, the dialogue didn't do anything for me and, oh, the timeline.

Do not read this book, if you expect logic or need your books to make any sense at all.

Two stars, because it did manage to keep me entertained enough to finish it.

This book deserves a better cover art. It's an okay angsty romance that was based on Greek mythology and was written as a gentle romance not an erotica like the cover assumes.
For a retelling of Hades and Persephone love story, it's quite different from the original myth. I don't mind it at all. For a change we are allowed to see Hades as the hero not a villain. And for a change there's no bad blood between Demeter and Hades.
3.5 stars for I like it.

Fun little read. I wouldn't have minded a little less of everybody else and a little more HxP, but hey.

Though I am puzzled and a bit disappointed that
Spoilerthe bad guy didn't get caught, or receive any kind of justice.
I assume this has something to do with a) the actual myth or b) the rest of the series (I have read none of the other tales, just yet). Regardless it felt like a bit of an oversight.

Beyond that, I don't have too much to complain about. This book is short, and cute.

The cover certainly doesn't do this book justice.

While the romance between Hades and Persephone is the central focus of the story, it's really not a very steamy book (there were like 1.5 love scenes), which was actually beneficial to the story. Because that wasn't such a focus, we got to see a beautiful slow burn relationship develop between the characters.

This book actually also introduced me to another Greek myth that I hadn't heard of before, and it was weaved in to the story in a very interesting and unique way.

Overall though, I think my favorite thing about this story is the characterization. In Hades/Persephone stories I often feel the Persephone character is never given enough personality or agency for my taste. She's perfect in this one, and Hades, despite his insecurities and flaws, manages to be sympathetic and gentle throughout, even when you want to scream because he's pushing Persephone away
