The bittersweet story of an elderly woman in failing health who decides to “kidnap” her senile husband for one last road trip in their RV down Route 66 against the advice of their children and doctors.

I love a book with strong characters and you don't get much more spirited than Edna Robina. Within the first couple of pages I fell in love with Edna, her husband John and their plight. A beautiful story.

So far this book is good.... not fast paced, no mystery to solve, just 2 elderly people on a trip. Sounds simple, but this book has captured me by my heart strings. Not sappy, just.... good. Real.

Finished it and I really loved it... unconventional love story :)

Hitting the road in their old home on wheels John and Ella decide for one more adventure. With John suffering from Alzheimer's and Ella deciding not to get treated for her Cancer it just might be their last trip. Reliving the trips they took with their now grown kids with the slides projected onto the side of their RV. This trip might be against their kids wishes but they are determined to see the sites on old Route 66.

I struggled to connect with this book at times and while I thought their relationship was endearing it just lost me at times.

Sve sam manje bila "zagrejana" za priču kako je vreme odmicalo. Dosađivali su mi i preterano detaljni opisi nekih destinacija i ruta. Ne znam kako nisam shvatila šta će se na kraju desiti - not a big fan.

This book was both funny and poignant. It was about an elderly couple, John who has Alzheimers and Ella who has been diagnosed with cancer and has decided not to seek treatment. Ella decides they need to take a last vacation together, so ignoring the warnings and threats from both doctors and their adult children they pack their things and escape in their "Leisure Seeker" RV. Heading from Michigan to Disneyland in California they struggle through the small daily difficulties that arise from getting older. Although there were many interesting scenes in the book and the characters were very well written, the book dragged a bit from too little plot. I would give this book 3-1/2 stars.

A sad, funny and sometimes moving book about the last road trip of an older couple who are running away from their adult kids, their doctors, and possible nursing home residency. As the story follows them cross county on Route 66 traveling in a mobile home, the female half of the couple narrates their ups and downs in a strong, sometimes sarcastic and loving voice.

Perhaps all the more personally since it echoes my own grandparents relationship.
