I dont know why I’ve taken this long to read it. I cannot pinpoint the reason.

But boyy what a drama rollercoaster. I have a headache. Literally from all the drama.

I enjoyed this book more than the previous duet. The writing has improved and the characters are fleshed out more. Friends to lovers is never my favourite trope but JC Hawke did this well. I was rooting for them both but at times I disliked the repetitive cycle they seemed to be heading in. I did notice that past events or other characters were mentioned and there would be no story attached to them.

There is a boatload of angst and tension in this book and you can continuously see Elliott trying to do the right thing for Lucy but Lucy doesn't make great decisions. The back and forth between them could have been cut shorter. This led to a side story that really seemed to pop out of nowhere and I think it was sort of unnecessary but it does force Lucy to overcome her problems.

(SPOILER-FREE!!!)
I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book and I tore my way through it. After reading Nina and Mason's story in Grand Lies and Grand Love, I was SO excited to see more of Lucy and Elliot and see their friendship develop. I loved them in the duet; the closeness, the "are they or aren't they together?", the sass and badgering of each other, and that all exploded tenfold in The Grand Pact.
Seeing how much they genuinely care for each other, even if some people could consider their relationship toxic, warmed my heart. Elliot is troubled by thinking about how he "should" behave based on his past, Lucy is scared to branch out and be on her own without Elliot and their friends, and I think a lot of us can connect with some or all of both of them. Watching Elliot accept his feelings, Lucy jump into a new world head-first and struggle but ultimately find herself, and both of them accept their love and connection was fantastic. J.C. has a wonderful way of making you simultaneously empathize with and hate the decisions these characters make, and I can't wait for the next books.

what?

What the hell did I just spend so long reading? Absolute crap, or bollocks as the Brits say. This book was so popular on TT and IG but is simply awful. There’s trash characters, the final third of the book is rushing to cleanly tie up all the random ends from the first two thirds. It’s a mess.

DNFING because the MMC is a POS. I couldn’t like anyone less. The FMC is a mouse and indecisive. Ugh. I wasted a couple hours on this. British idiots behaving abominably. He’s getting a blow job and texting with the FMC. He fingers the FMC and then she finds him in his office with another woman but no big deal, they aren’t actually “together”. Please.

Oh my goodness!!
Where do I even start with this book!
The Grand Pact will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions.
I love JC Hawke so much that I’ve read hundreds of books and after reading The Promise Duet she is the first author I’ve ever sent a direct message to tell her how amazing her books are!
Once again she’s knocked it out of the park, I had butterflies, I had the ache of sadness in the pit of my stomach, I laughed and I even cried.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll keep this review short and sweet.
This book is an absolute MUST READ!
There’s “Not A Thing” I would change about this book.
Love love love! I’d give a 100 star rating if I could!
Seriously go get this book NOW you won’t be disappointed!!

Truthfully, I wanted to love this book so much more. Elliot and Lucy were a fan favorite from the first two books and I gave it two stars simply because I love them. Their relationship in this wasn’t there for me and it sort of felt like filler 80% of the time. We read about “the pact” maybe once or twice and then it’s done.

I’m also confused with who some of these kids belong to but thats for the next book I guess. I loved Lies/Love and will patiently wait for Charlie to get his flowers.

*instantly adds Elliot to my book boyfriend list*

ELLIOT AND LUCY!
It’s about time we got their story. And story it was!

Elliot and Lucy are BFFs who always come close to crossing the line but never do.
Elliot is a notorious playboy and Lucy wants her Prince Charming. Obviously their goals are not compatible.
Until they make a pact. Elliot just wants Lucy to live her best life. Step out of her comfort zone!
He encourages her to pursue her fashion dream in New York.
You would think a long distance love story wouldn’t work. But it really does.

Elliot loves Lucy so he acts on the adage
“If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were”
Does that backfire you will have to read to find out.

This story is so sweet and endearing. Elliot is better than I thought he would be.

I’m happy for them and glad Tuesday came around ;)

*this book is a standalone HOWEVER it would be better loved if you read the promise duet before*

I downloaded this as soon as it was released and I spent all of release day reading it!
I’m absolutely obsessed with Luce and Elliot!
This was wonderfully written, spicy, emotional, and full of angst! I loved how you still got pieces of the lives of characters from The Promise Duet Series.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

JC Hawke hit it out of the park with this book!

Absolute perfection!
