This is my first full length novel by this author though I've read some of her work in the Black Light Roulette collections. It won't be the last book of hers that I will read either. This book won't be for everyone - in fact there was a time I would have been uncomfortable reading it. However my reading preferences are now much darker, edgier and I like having my boundaries pushed. Certain scenes in this book push my personal boundaries the author also did an excellent and yet unobtrusive job of showing how all activities were SSC.

The book is written third person, mainly from Sandy's perspective but with enough of Reeve's thoughts to appreciate and understand him as a character too. I found Eric's presence a little distracting. He often (and I'm assuming deliberately) felt like a spare part, though I did like the cabin scene and permission.

Sandy was amazing, I loved her strength of character and how she retained this throughout the story. She owned her submission and ultimately was in control of everything that happened to her. There were so many times when Sandy's thoughts of the situation echoed my own, it even giggled a few times at the similarity of our outlooks. At other times her blinkered attitude was almost annoying - but it was pertinent to the plot rather than poor characterisation.

Reeve was so conflicted over his feelings for her and how he should treat Sandy. At times this leads to quite disappointing, and almost "unDommly" behaviour from him, however Sandy definitely tried his patience and pushed his buttons. Even after his internal debate over chasing after a sub he didn't seem to fully act on his instincts. I would have liked the author to have shown us a little more of his internal conflict and the motivation behind some of his actions - did he think Sandy wouldn't accept him, did he want to give her the chance to live her dreams or was he just being pig-headed?

This isn't a 'vanilla BDSM' book, it is designed to make you feel uncomfortable. Whilst it technically isn't a non-con or dubious consent book it does, at times, have darker tones. If punishment, humiliation and explicit sexual scenes are not your thing then it probably isn't for you. If you do decide to read it please don't leave a negative review having been warned of it's content.
