This was a lot different than I was expecting but I really liked it. I wouldn't recommend it if you're in the mood for a fluffy rom-com as it tackles some heavy topics (emotional abuse, gaslighting, cyberbullying) and while the romance is there (and heartwarming) it's not center stage. This book is more about healing and friendship which I loved.

I really love Mhairi McFarlane’s writing but listening to this was too stressful for me at this moment in my life. Definitely check out the content warnings before reading and if they don’t hit too close to home, read away. She’s an excellent writer, just don’t go in expecting an easy breezy rom com!

Ugh! How wonderful, I couldn't put this down. I've experienced an emotionally abusive relationship, so I was worried this book would be a bit much for me. But it was genuinely really healing.
I loved the friendship dynamics best, the way she was able to lean on them and learn from them.

Not. For me.

Expecting a romance book, for a drama filled, abusive littered crap show of someone’s life.

I honestly didn’t get what was advertised and wish I had known more what to expect before jumping in. My first book by this author picked up on a whim but it was not a light romance, there was a LOT of domestic abuse triggers for anyone wondering. A lot of toxic stuff in here and basically no romance anywhere.

I can see where people would enjoy this look into a woman’s life as she tries to figure out her life but I wasn’t looking for a book like this and I don’t enjoy ones with this tone. So not for me.

While I enjoyed this and the drama of it all, I wish the romance was paced differently and sooner in the book. This is the second book I’ve read from this author where the romance is a subplot rather than the main plot. Regardless, I was entertained, I just wish I got more of the romance of it all up front since it came and went so fast

It is more of a self-healing book than the romance story of Harriet.
But i liked it nevertheless.
She is been through a lot in her past and she is being through a lot. So we need her to heal.
And that’s what is about in this book.
