I was a bit disappointed by these comics. It started off strong and the characters are very interesting but the politics and toils of their dystopian world were so convoluted that it lost me towards the middle. The way the language is written is also pretty confusing. I think the strength of this comic book is in the character development, not in the storytelling.

I really liked this story. It was one of those that little bits and pieces are revealed along the way that bring the story more into focus. By the end you see what’s been happening clearly. I enjoyed the mystery and thrill of it. The characters were great too!

Well layered plots, good pacing, interesting characters, solid world building, fantastic colors, and art that grew on me.

So why only 3 stars? The ending for sure. What could've been good political intrigue and mysteries turned into tired tropes, transphobic depictions, and emotional dramas.

there's clearly a well thought out and expansive world built here but i was still confused by the end. i think there just isn't enough time to really flesh it out and explain it
i did not like the art for this one but i do be enjoying Simon Spurrier's works

Fun fantasy, and definitely worth the read. It's a big world, with hints at a lot of depth that the reader can fill in the gaps of.

Having recently gotten into tabletop role-playing games, I noticed that there is a lot of room for other stories in this world. I'm not saying I'm going to home brew a D20 system out of it, but I could definitely see it being a solid gaming universe.

This story seemed right up my alley. But for whatever reason I couldn't get into it. I think it had to do with the world building and the plot. I just couldn't get invested. Still it is a fun read.

2022 Edit

I think the problem with this book is that there is too much crammed in for only a handful of issues. This would've been perfect if this story lasted for a few more volumes. Also rereading this made me realize how conflicted I am with the ending. I still think this is a unique comic that should be read sadly the flaws do weigh this down from being an excellent book.
