I didn’t feel she dug in deep with any aspect of her life so you come out feeling like you’re none the wiser about her than what’s been hashed and rehashed in the media and other small interviews or articles.

I read some and listened to her narrate some. Her narration is great but the actual content didn’t feel genuine or actually open enough for what I expected.

So this book is very long and has a lot of details. I do appreciate how introspective Jada was throughout her story and only speaking on her behalf and her journey. I think she shed light on a lot of hot topics people want to know and i ultimately think that her and Will are just very misunderstood people, so this allowed for a peak behind the curtain.

Now, to read Wills and get his side of the story 🤪

3.25/5 - I love Jada and have loved her since I was a kid…however, I don’t feel like I gained any additional knowledge about her that I already didn’t know. What I learned is she settled for a life she didn’t want to appease everyone around her, including her husband. She became a Hollywood Step-ford wife and hasn’t been happy since. And she has taken a lot of bullets for Will that I believe she shouldn’t have and lost her identity in the process.
With Will’s book, I felt like I learned about him and everyone around him was the supporting cast. With Jada’s book, I learned more about everyone around her with Jada being the supporting cast. The last 12% of the book peaked my interest, but it was not enough. Like Will’s book, they left out a lot about their almost 30 years of marriage, but I was able to read between the lines more with Jada’s POV, to where I’m satisfied.

Did not hate this book but also did not love it, pretty mid-range for me. She sort of framed it as a bare-all vulnerable exposé but I also felt like she framed herself in a favorable light without taking responsibility for much of anything in her life. It was nice to learn more about her background and about how she was raised, I didn’t even know she was childhood friends with Tupac, so that’s how little I really knew about her to start. I think she’s lead a really interesting life but I’m not sure if it translated well in the book for me, I felt like it could have been consolidated quite a bit. Also not a huge fan of the spiritually enlightened self help talk in general, though I understand that is an important part of her life. Liked the audiobook to hear it in her voice, I think that made a big difference for me too.
