TW/CW: Death of a spouse, death of a child, forced IVF, animal death, kidnapping, gun violence, attempted rape, blood, gore, animal attack, mention of suicide, cliffhanger ending
Okay, I’m super torn about this book. The sci-fi aspect is great! Super original alien mythology and post apocalyptic scenario. I felt and empathize with Carmella. I laughed with her, I cried with her, the whole 9 yards. And her and Bilal (the alien turned human) are super cute once they start to feel comfortable around each other and a live or death situation brings them closer together. Butwhen Bilal impregnates her with an embryo he created on the mother ship to make her happy because he found out about the death of her first child, it’s basically rape and forced in vitro. After she finds out, she’s angry, of course but she comes to love the fetus and gets super excited about it and when the baby comes, she loves him on sight but it’s the fact that she wasn’t given a choice reeeeeeeeeally irks me
Other than that I really enjoyed it!
