2.5 stars. I have loved other Alice Munro books, but this one just did not connect with me. I always appreciate her writing as a craft, but only the title story, Rich as Stink, and Before the Change moved me and kept me interested. I was probably influenced by the news that she was aware of her husband's sexual abuse of their daughters, as I seemed to see references to this knowledge sprinkled throughout the stories.

Complex tales of complex women and their relationships with each other and (sometimes) the men who move around and determine their lives. An ex husband who disparages all the women he knows but still wants to one up his ex wife. A daughter who's Dad is a GP and runs an abortion clinic but hasn't told him that she has been pregnant. Stories of trying to recapture things lost, or longed for

Zes korte verhalen in 1 boek.

What a great book! There was only one story I didn't care for as much, but I loved all the others. I am really happy I bought several of her books while we were in Edinburgh, I'm looking forward to reading them.

Let someone borrow or lost (back in 1998-99). Replaced 3/8/14. Might be one of my first reads by Munro. I remember being quite excited about it.

Amazed again. Fierce is just one word that comes to mind as a description. She is a master.
