Short stories are not my favorite, and I'm glad I made time for this collection.

As with any short story anthology, there were hits and misses. I liked the various explorations of queerness throughout these stories and I especially loved how much they focused on wlw and trans identities. I definitely will be checking out more work from the authors of my favorite stories.
The standouts:
Legends are Made, Not Born by Cherie Dimaline
Né łe! by Darcie Little Badger
Imposter Syndrome by Mari Kurisato
Valediction at the Star View Motel by Nathan Adler

"not all stories, despite their rarity and scarcity, should be told to everyone. sometimes the act of sharing changes and simplifies the stories and experiences they represent...not all stories need to be shared, because the act of sharing makes them vulnerable to change and exploitation"
i feel like reading this was a true privilege. i loved the short stories and often read them at night before sleep. i think "perfectly you" and "the boys who became hummingbirds" were my two faves, and i'd like to believe that's emma and cassie on the cover.
if you're looking for a wholesome time, highly recommend.

This anthology is absolutely perfect. Even though not all of the works are equally polished, they're all beautiful and so hopeful. It's a delight that I can read these stories of people so different from me and am allowed to take a peek into their thoughts and imagination.
The story I probably like even a bit more than the rest is Perfectly You by David A. Robertson, but that's because it made me cry and mourn my dad and left me with a feeling of relief after its conclusion.
I think everyone should read anthologies like this, it's just good for you!

A mix of stories exploring gender identity and queer love, heart-warming and heart-breaking in equal measure. Don't skip the intros!
Favourites:
Legends are Made, not Born: touching, welcoming
The Boys Who Became the Hummingbirds: 😭
Né Le! : Surprising no one, Darcie Little Badger's contribution included animals and was absolutely wonderful
Valediction at the Star View Motel: 🕸️♥️
⚠️racism, violence motivated by intolerance
