A great book! The language is nicely "Shakespearean", but still very clear. The story is quite exciting, relatable, and gives an insight into the times of the Elizabethan theatre. The story reminds me of the books by Gary Blackwood  (The Shakespeare Stealer etc), but this book is not limited to the world of the theatre, the main character does not end up an actor, and the story is based on the true story of the building of the Globe theatre in Southwark using timbers snuck away in the middle of the night.  There are few black and white illustrations, but they add to the atmosphere and the character of the book. Illustrated by Thomas Cox.

I generally enjoy the "life in the time Shakespeare" type books that feature ordinary kids becoming involved with the Bard and his theater company. This one does not disappoint. It is a fun look behind the curtain at the Globe.
