Well, this novel is terrifying. As a Floridian, I am painfully aware of the toll that climate change is taking on our state, and especially our coastlines. I live in a place with a genuine hurricane season every year, and with the annual fear that this year we could get "the big one". Also, this novel features the world's first ever Category 6 hurricane and while reading the book, I read an article about how the US government is considering adding a 6th category to hurricane classifications. Lovely.

Besides the hitting too close to home of it all (literally), Displacements is a really strong novel. The characters are complex enough and I loved how they showed genuine and believable growth throughout the novel. There is the perfect mix of plot and characters while not sacrificing one for the other at any point. If I had any criticism of the book, it felt like Holsinger tried to do a little too much with it. Natural disasters, political stuff, guns, drugs, marital infidelity, it really was a lot. While the novel was long enough to support all of this stuff, a slightly narrower focus would have improved the book even more, in my opinion. But still, I could not put this book down and raced through it.
