Unexpectedly good book

Characters: A
Plot: B
Heat: A

I was wary of reading this book. It came up multiple times in my recommendations, and i read some of the negative reviews from bloggers I respect, but I decided to read it anyway. I am really glad I did. This book was totally unexpected.

The first time we are introduced to Huck, he his cocky, and having extremely descriptive sex with another woman. I hate that in books, but I kept chugging along. After he finishes servicing this woman he goes on the the birthday party to strip as a favor to an old friend, because that's not his thing anymore. There he meets Zoe, and feels instant attraction to her. He's all over her, and I was a bit turned off since he was fresh from a sexual encounter with anither woman...but I keep going. And I'm glad.

From there Huck is totally awesome. He is so protective of Zoe. He wants to help her, needs to help her. From the moment he meets her, he stops seeing his clients. He's willing to fight for her, for years if need be, both physically and emotionally. I totally loved when he said, "... the side of me that had started to treat Zoe like she was my water and air. I needed to be around her." Though, I wish I had a better understanding of why Huck needed to be loved and wanted, maybe more about his, what I assume to be, his rough childhood.

I liked Zoe's character, she was interesting, and had a pretty rough past. I liked that she wasn't judgemental, she came off that way at times, and with good reason, but in the end, when it mattered she understood about people's pasts, and the decisions people make. I liked that she was sexually experienced, and didn't hesitate with Huck. I liked that she accepted Huck's time as an escort, but not to the point that she would continue to sleep with him if he kept doing it.

The sex was completely filthy and descriptive, and I loved it. There was a good build up between Huck and Zoe, and there was just the right amount of scenes.

This was utter garbage for me. I don't know why I kept reading, but I'd already committed and I struggle to back out after I commit to a book. Most of the book made no sense, the backstory of one of the characters was never explained and the characters were "in love" in under a week. Nuh uh, not my cup of tea.
