3.5-4 stars!
I was in a serious need for an Historical romance and this book has been on my shelf for a looong time! I'm so happy I picked this book up because these characters and the plot was so much fun! I really enjoyed the banter and the love between the characters. Jack and Lilah were beyond cute and I was seriously rooting for them.
I love that it wasn't just cookie-cutter happy but it also had some low angst, but not between the MCs but between them and their families. Seeing Jack's struggle with his father and the animosity that has surrounded Lilah for much of her life when she's with her family, was pretty saddening. I felt bad for them but I knew that they would have each other and that Jack could fix his relations with his family.
This book was well written and I am happy I picked it up but I felt that the ending was soo sooo rushed! I was really disheartened that I thought, "this is it..?" I wanted more and I felt short-changed that we didn't get it! But, I so did loved everything else!

Backlist
I decided to read the author's Backlist and I was not disappointed. This is a classic HR with a heroine in search of a husband... And as always ... The best type of husband is the wrong one!
An ugly duckling retelling with a self made hero brings a lot of feelings to the table!

I love it. I love the banter between the heroine and the hero. And I kinda like the hero. He's so sweet.

Lilah had an easier time handling spiders than she did interacting with handsome men and that’s why she was the main character

The most fanfic dialogue and plot pacing of all the romance novels I have read so far. Which is to say I had a good time, but I am ready for a Kleypas palette cleanser.
Taylor Swift songs
Jack Marlowe: Stay Beautiful, "You're beautiful, Every little piece, love; don't you know?, You're really gonna be someone, Ask anyone"
Lilah Appleton: Mean, "Someday, I'll be living in a big old city, And all you're ever gonna be is mean"
