Reviews with content warning for Misogyny - Fix the System, Not the Women

Outraging, but necessary. A good and profound introduction to systemic misogyny. A book that'll make you look differently at the world, which is vital now. Because only then change is possible. For us and future generations.
The systemic misogyny and discrimination against women, transwomen, women of colour and all non-male identifying people is unbelievable. Being aware of how deep rooted it is in our society is not something that brings me joy to say the least. But it’s so so important to be conscious of what is happening around us, with us, against us. Because only by being aware can we move forward. Can we acknowledge where misogyny and just pure violence is happening, because it's so much more than you would ever imagine. It’s everywhere and we’re so used to it, so brought up with it, by it, that sometimes we’re not even aware anymore (or I wasn’t). And seeing it so blatantly exposed everywhere is terrifying.

Another insightful, informative non fiction book about misogyny and sexism from Laura Bates. This book focuses on systems of political and social power that work to oppress women, using examples from the Everyday Sexism project to illustrate the dire need for reforms from the UK government.

Although I preferred Misogynation (simply because it's longer and more in-depth), I found this book similarly engaging. Reading this made me angry at how mistreated women are in schools, universities, workplaces, and other other structural organisations. Laura Bates is spot on when she advocates for an overhaul of laws, bodies of power (the police) and systems (like secondary education) in order to root out misogyny at the highest level.

To say I enjoy Laura’s books is probably the wrong word to use - I don’t enjoy any of the content of the books of course. I do however find her books very accessible and very important. Fix the System, Not the Women is quite a short, quick read but is impactful and informative. Men in particular, I implore you to read this.
