GENIUS. I nearly cried because of the beauty and masterful way she crafted this tale. I was gripped until the very last sentence. It was the perfect mystery: at the end, you think “why didn’t I see it? It’s so obvious!” But of course, brilliantly, it wasn’t.

Top 5 books I have ever read. Hands down.

A prime specimen of the genre, this is an exquisitely-plotted puzzle-box of a story. I did feel like the resolution of the mystery was telegraphed early on, but that's part of the game: can the author give you enough information that you should guess whodunit but make it obscure enough that you don't?

What can really be said about this book, it’s a classic for a reason. I enjoyed this book as we travel or rather get stuck while on the Orient Express. Hercule Poirot is looking forward to a much-needed holiday when he is called back to Europe for a case. While jammed onto the unusually full Orient Express Mr. Ratchett is murdered. Stuck in the snow with a murderer on the loose Poirot jumps into action to help his friend Bouc solve the crime. The famous ending of this book has been ruined for me for a while now, but even so I enjoyed the journey of unraveling the mystery.

I love Agatha Christie's stories but I haven't read many of her books, mostly sticking to the Masterpiece Theater versions. I needed a simple read for plane flights to and from the Twin Cities this weekend and wanted to take a break from my usual Fantasy/SciFi genres. I landed upon Murder on the Orient Express, my first time reading Hercule Poirot. I quite enjoyed the story with all it's twists and turns. Hastings was missing but his lack of presence was made up for by Poirot's friend M. Bouc and the doctor. I would recommend this to other Agatha Christie/Poirot lovers. I definitely plan to read more Poirot and exercise 'the little grey cells'.
