This was a such an interesting book. The story is dark, funny at times, and addictive. Sally Diamond is an incredible character, and I really enjoyed reading how her story played out.

After seeing so much praise online about this book, I decided to pick it up and see if it lived up to the hype.  It certainly does that.
This story is complex and upsetting.  Reading through this can be quite difficult at times, but this doesn't take anything away from how well the book is written.
I feel like you are easily emersed into the story, maybe even relating to some of the feelings of the characters.

SYNOPSIS
  • Sally can’t remember anything before her 7th birthday. She was adopted by a couple, and she doesn’t recall life before them.
  • Sally is in her 40s now, and her father recently passed from cancer. Her mother had died some time ago. Sally has always been a loner, and she has struggled socially. She gets severe anxiety when dealing with others.
  • Peter’s story intertwines, and it starts when he is a young boy in the 1970s.

MY THOUGHTS
  • Heavy topics.
  • Seamlessly woven together.
  • Writing flows so well. Impossible to put down.
  • Compelling, engrossing, & devastating read.
  • Two POVs + alternates between past & present.
  • Well-developed characters. Loved getting to learn the back stories.
  • It’s impossible to not root for Sally!

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Compelling, engrossing, & devastating read. Finished in 24 hrs.

Up until the ending of this book, I thought it would be 5 stars from me. What a letdown of an ending! Really awful. What happened?! Just so disappointing.

‘It’s hard,’ I said, ‘I’m forty-four and I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.’
Same Sally gal, same.

I don’t even know where to start with this one.

At first, this wasn’t a page turner but then WOAH everything changed for me. Even though some of it was kinda expected - S for example, I was still absolutely hooked.

Very very dark book, even though I won’t lie I wasn’t a massive fan of Sally, my heart still hurt so so much for her.

I’m not even going to touch upon Peter. Absolutely disgusted me
