I've complained before about how I'm tired of male characters being described as smelling of pine and how I wish authors would get more creative with scents, and Thanatos is described here as smelling of "ancient funeral incense," and I'm so pleased with that. (Don't tell me if pine incense is a thing. I'll be upset. Ha.)

My least fav so far but i feel like Thanatos just didn’t develop as well as the other characters over the previous books aside from being like the ~responsible~ triplet

Not as good as the other books. Felt a bit rushed with everything going on between Hecate, the rest of the Pithos, and the rest of the plot. It wasn't bad. Not nearly as much angst with Hecate and Thanatos which is extremely disappointing. This was the book I was looking forward to the most after Hades and Persephone.

"'You being here is a blessing, not a curse. You have never, ever been a curse.'"
This was such a sweet Thanatos x Hecate story, and I enjoyed every minute of their relationship. Seeing how Thanatos acted around Hecate at the beginning - nervous about finally being in a body for the first time, wondering how Hecate felt about him, and so on - was so sweet. It felt nice (from the reader's perspective) seeing that a fictional, handsome, tatted man was nervous around the girl he liked. (Usually, they're all confident to the point of macho/arrogant, which usually annoys me.) It's really nice seeing all the women - Ariadne, Medusa, Persephone, Selene, and now Hecate - become friends and form a solid friend group. They all settle into an easy dynamic that you rarely see with 3+ female characters in fantasy/fiction books. (Usually, you see 2 female characters being pretty solid, but once you get to 3 or more, then you get those weird/annoying catty dynamics.) I really enjoyed this book, and Thanatos and Hecate really deserved to be with each other after so long.
