Excellent fantasy story

Gemmell knows how to write a thrilling tale with interesting characters. Very readable and some great battles. The slightly mystical element with the Seidh keeps it interesting too.

I really enjoyed this read. I loved the world building. The characters have growth, and a lot of time passes. It is interesting to see what the different characters are going through at the same times even though they are so far from one another. There was some unexpected grief that hit home, but it was handled in a respectful way. There is death, murder, revenge, and hatred mixed in with the love, friendship, honor, courage, and wisdom. 

The fantasy creatures are fascinating. The concept of the geasa for the men makes you pay close attention to what is happening. I am curious to read more about this world and the characters in it. I feel there is a lot more to come. It is interesting to think about how much effect promises can have when broken. I am glad my friend recommended this.
