I have been trying to make it through this book for more than a month, and I think it's high time that I gave up on it. I had high hopes for it because of the "sexual disappointment" aspect - I like when books about sex aren't all about sexy fun times, but I just didn't find the author compelling as a character or a human being at all.
The author quickly stakes her claim to normalcy by asserting that she isn't a survivor of sexual abuse (though, actually, if you look at RAINN's statistics, being an abuse survivor IS woefully normal) or a drug addict, etc etc. She also states that she's had some sort of sexual entanglement with 23 different men. Soooo.... why am I reading this book? She seems entirely unremarkable.
I'm 100% sure I'm not the target audience for this memoir. But it all just seemed so average... and I just don't buy that its brave and spectacular for a middle class white lady to write about her (not even very extensive) sexual exploits. Yawn.
