I'm just going to come out with it ... I LOVED THIS BOOK.

I am ashamed to say that this may be the book that has been on my shelf for the longest. I have left it waiting and waiting. I wasn't necessarily anxious to pick it up, I don't feel like there is much of a hype for this series anymore ... probably because I am the last person in the world to pick it up. I just didn't pick it up. I am so glad I managed to pick this out of my tbr jar and start it. I am also glad that I started it when I was on my rest days from work due to the fact once I started I could not put it down. I am a fast reader, with fantasy I am slightly slower - however I flew through Three Dark Crowns in less than 24 hours and I only didn't finish it in one sitting because I had to be an adult in between which did not impress me.

I don't even know where to start with this one. I love all of the characters. I think the characters are what made my enjoyment so prevalent. I will admit that I was confused to start with because there are a vast amount of characters within it. But once you have got your head round who is who and what characters belong to which of the three queens I feel like my enjoyment just continually soared from that point onwards. I love each of the queens in their own way. I love that they all have different powers AND THE PLOT TWIST! OMG. I also enjoyed all the little romances. I used little happily as none of the romance I feel took over the plot which is something that I am really grateful for.

I also really liked the structure of this book. It begins with fairly long chapters full of character and world building. However as the drama begins to kick in the chapter shorten dramatically which really adds to the atmosphere and the effect that it had on me. I found myself reading faster and faster to the point where I just couldn't put it down, I didn't want to put it down. I liked that each chapter was a POV for each queen, I liked seeing things from their point of view and seeing what was going on in each go their lives. I enjoyed that regardless of the fact they are deemed to be one they also have their own story and plot line.

Three Dark Crowns is not filled to the brim of action and plot twist. However it is something that I feel is necessary for the rest of the series. I have come away with such a love for the characters and a great understanding for the world and the magic. I have enough now to enjoy the rest without having to concern myself with this. There was action a lot of it being at the end. There were also a few plot twists that took me by surprise and the ending I DID NOT SEE COMING.

This book is the first book I have given 5 stars too and it may well make it to one of my favourites and the year .. that's it I'm calling it already and we are only at the start of March. Honestly this was excellent and it was the first time this year that I have finished a book and immediately picked up the next in the series. I am not impressed i have to wait a whole day until I am able to read it but I will be picking it up immediately.

If you haven't picked up this book I suggest you do it immediately. I don't think you will regret it. I don't know why I've written that, I must be the only person in the book community to have only just read this one!

Wow! This had a lot of moving parts and characters that at first I was a little confused. I kind of wish that I had physically read while I was listening to the audiobook, at least for the beginning of the book so that it would have been easier to process the story a lot faster.

But here I am now, having finished the entire book, and I have to tell you that I really freaking loved it. Kendare Blake knows how to weave a tale that makes me fall in love with the characters and her world building. This is a 4 book series, so to keep me hooked for that long, you’d need to be.

From the very beginning of the book, one of the 3 sisters was my favorite and I wanted her to live most of all, but as the story progressed, I got attached to them all. I know for the story to make sense, 1 or more of them will need to die in the end, but if it’s Arsinoe, I may die myself. She’s my sweet baby child and I want nothing bad to happen to her. Seeing as how she is the “weakest” sister, I want to protect her. But my theory is that she’s secretly the strongest and just doesn’t know it yet.

I will definitely be continuing these and I’m hoping I’ll love every single book as much as the first.

This book captured my attention from the moment I read the summary. It's so interesting 3 sisters who each grew up nurturing their abilities and knowing that they would have to kill one another for the throne, as queen. The unexpected twists and turns in this plot made me reveal so many emotions as I read this, I felt like I was there alongside the 3 sisters. The plot twists also caught me off-guard, but at the same time it got me more interested., This book is an amazing piece of literature, keep up the great work!

This wasn't what I was expecting, but I did enjoy this book. When I had heard the plot, I had figured it would be three BA women who thirst for blood. I'm not super interested in dark novel and moralless characters. I was happy to find that each character was much more nuanced than that, each of the three queens having their own personality and failings.

There isn't much action in this book, it is much more about maneuvering. This is a political novel. There is a little bit of an annoying love triangle. But besides that, I enjoyed it.
