I really love Don Hertzfeldt and I have watched all of his animated movies and shorts. Unfortunately this was not a good book. It was page after page of his drawings and random text. I'm used to his nonsense story lines and love him for it but it did not translate to book format. I was a little disappointed to see that many pages were recycled materials from his other stories.

I do adore Don's work a lot (I've yet to see World of Tomorrow as of writing this, but ISABD & Rejected are among my all time favorite films), but this was a bit too surreal to properly connect with. Usually he blends that + impactfulness really well, and although I chuckled a couple times and enjoyed the art, I breezed through this in less than 20 minutes and was left feeling a bit... maybe not underwhelmed but just slightly indifferent to it? It's still unique but it just didn't connect with me. More of an art piece than a real narrative experience, which is what I guess I was hoping for here.

Hmm. Weird. I like Don Hertzfeldt's animation work, and I think this will definitely please fans. It's definitely silly and surreal, but also has a kind of frantic energy that I think would accompany any real world-ending cataclysm.

I'm not really one to read fanfiction, but I kept seeing this series get recommended and thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did! The writing is fantastic and believable, I often forgot I was reading a fanfiction and not something from Suzanne Collins. Kudos FernWithy, I may just have to check out your other works!
